Project Educate: An Interview with *etNoir
*etNoir is an iconist who stands out because of her very clean, yet beautiful pixel-style and great use of colors in her pieces. For this reason, she is one of the inspiring iconists that were interviewed for the Icons & Handhelds-week.
How long have you been active as an iconist and what was it that first drew you towards the community and art form?
The first icon I made was for Halloween in 2007, but apparently it took me until the beginning of 2009 to make another.
I was mostly an emoticonist back then and from there it’s not such a big step to becoming an iconist, I guess. But what really got me inspired was joining the ~FreeAvatarProject.
What do you draw inspiration from?
DeviantART is actually my biggest source of inspiration. There are so many talented artists here and just browsing the galleries can give me a lot of new ideas.
What are your tools when creating art?
Do you have tips to give or tricks to share for the particular programs you might use that could help beginners out?
I use Paint mostly and ImageReady for animating / adding transparency.
Paint is still the best program I ever used when it comes to pixel art. The best feature for me is being able to use two colours at the same time, without having to switch between them all the time. And the right-click option of the eraser makes it really easy to change colours later on.
The most important tip for everyone new to Paint: never EVER save your image as a .jpg file.
It ruins you image.
Thanks for interviewing me!
